So many thanks are required, it's going to have to be said that we've had quite a ride, but we got 6 shows under our belts. A massive thankyou to the following: Charles Hinton, Michael Ruth, Stephen Nicholas Briggs, Laura Hirst, Rusty O'Nhiall, Eric Dionne for being amazing guests. Thanks to Charli Nichols, Mike Roberts, John Tenney, Chris Radford and Lucy Diamond, Kathryn Marney-Holt and last but by no means least, David Smith for everything they have done to keep the faith, and in Dave's case, the snowballs rolling.
Below you can click directly onto the playlists. or you can click here and visit the portal of Podfling which includes all the extra video clips, student films, guest summaries, blog, chat and ofcourse the shows themselves.
For those who actually took this film literally, no we've never started a food tasting video blog. Tongues firmly in cheek with this one. It also was a lot of fun. We saw the cheese that was marked "for adults only" what else did you expect us to do? Leave it on the shelf to go mould..... oh, maybe that would have been a good idea.
Every now and then we will make crazy little clips like this of various moments. It's about having fun with the visual medium that is instant digital video. I still have to pad out the video section of this website. It's very thin on the ground, but we will work on that. So enjoy this video, but avoid this cheese. It's really nothing to write home about.
It's so rewarding when you learn something new in Dreamweaver, even if it's as simple as an image rollover. It has made a big difference however to the look and nagivation of this website. Now we have a full 800 width for updates. No issues with strange boxes to the left that don't sit straight in their little margins...
Also, it gives me a chance to open other areas of the site, and flex some banner art.
Podfling Radio is forever evolving into its own species of podcast. To begin with, we didn't quite see it, and even after episode 1, it still wasn't fully with us in terms of nature. Like anything, it takes a while to get used to something new, and Podfling Radio has adapted to a style and format that we are now, after episode 4, quite excited about. We know how it looks, we are also getting more and more comfortable over the microphone. Our show changed dramatically at #3, simply because David was able to be present here in the studio (which is an apartment, but when you plug in the microphone, it becomes a studio. My rules!). How shows manage to have two hosts in different locations and still sound great is something that is still beyond us. Now that technology has caught up to the home office/studio, we know we have no excuse to provide something of quality. We also know that with everything, we will better over time.
We've managed to push ourselves in several ways: trying to break from being so rigid as hosts and putting our own personalities out there. Sometimes in order to know your limits, you have to exceed them and then pull things back to a happy middle point that works for everybody.
We hope that the other 2 episode (totally 6 for this first season) will be even better than the last 4. After that, we will be changing topics and moving over to the realm of music.
We're not going to be for everybody's taste, but we are doing all we can to entertain and to promote others out there in the creative world. We thank those who have supported us so far. You konw who you are and without your encouragement gives us that extra drive to work harder and make better shows.
Robert Riley will be coming back after almost a half year since the last story was completed. I hope to write up another 6 very short short, micro short stories further evolving the character and bringing elements in that will hopefully support a muich larger canvas in the future.
The Video page will soon include the playlists of student videos show on Podfling Radio, and hopefully more footage from student days outside of the podcast discussion corner will be posted.
Have a great weekend!

FEBRUARY 3rd, 2011 "Collaborations: Podfling - Don't Fear the Writer"
Finally I have a day to get something written down here!
This January has been extremely busy beyond comparison. February promises to be busy too, but on a more creative level. Hard to believe that one year ago, I was still in the Netherlands writing the first Robert Riley stories, and within the space of two months, I was back in England.
Straight away, on arrival, I knew that one thing was going to happen. I would eventually work again with good friend and collaborative student filmmaker turned musician and writer, David Smith. Almost a year after, we've gotten something started that I hope will do well.
Crazy podcasting: it seems when everybody is doing it, there isn't much room for finding that new unique perspective. Well, for some reason nobody has ever accused Dave or I of being anywhere within the ordinary. It's going to be a fun ride. Check out our first teaser by the way, on the website as well as on the stephenradford.com face book page. We have several more to come and now that I have been given a little time, I intend to get a whole lotta-stuff moving forward.
This last weekend I checked in with Mr D Smith and we discussed putting his website onto the 800x width compatibility ladder. This online renovation has been long overdue. Last night, it was done. You can also direct yourself to that page by going to the sub domain: davidsmith.stephenradford.com/
FEBRUARY 1st, 2011
Coming soon, stephenradford.com will be entering the podcast world. Each season will focus on a specific creative concept: the theme for season one is "Independant and student film" - looking back retrospectively on the evolution of film studies, as well as seeing how both geurilla and independant filmmakers handle their craft. As the premise in the teaser suggests, no topic will outstay its welcome. Once we're done, we will move to another subject matter and hold with it for another season.
This is PODFLING RADIO. Join David Smith and myself (Stephen Radford) for our debut, ready for downloading on February 16th 2011...
knock on wood.
"1am, and that can only mean one thing. Website Updates!"
JANUARY 3rd, 2010
When I get the creative bug, I have to see it through. It is that simple.
Six year and a bit ago, I was given the assignment to build a website portfolio to house my Uni projects. Way back then it was a big deal: getting images and text to appear together and put it out there for all to see. Since then, having this site has kept me going. With it I have hopefully kept the creative edge sharp. Sure I've broken the lead a few times, lost the pencil down the couch for a month or two between bursts, but it's there. It's always there. I really never doubted that it would go anywhere. Writing is at the very core fibre of my being, and when it's not writing, it's visual, it's practical... it's a mouth watering steak and potato.
There is however so much more that I can do, and from that comes further learning.
2010 will be remembered for several things: the start which pushed me to write short stories. Moving back to England and finding the girl I will marry in 2011. Getting back in touch with family has been a big deal for me and I love that part of this year also.
Photography has become a new creative outlet, breaking me from the four walls, the dek and this... the computer screen. Finally, with writing Robert Riley, I kept something short, (unlike this post) and although I don't think many people read them, I felt as though they were a worthy challenge for somebody who is confortable in epic 160,000 word arenas. I still have two or three stories there left to tell. Who knows, if the inspiration arrives, I will welcome it regardless of who reads it.
Remember: "It's not about numbers, it's about maintaining momentum."
I also have to note one thing about this year. It has been the year of change, that much is certain. I'm afraid that on some levels, I could have done more! I noticed also that everybody kept to their own this year. Not so many chances for collaborations - which is something I will hopefully remedy in the future.
On the other hand, those who I have aided in the last year, I thank you for the opportunity. You stood up to the plate with a brief and there was followthrough. I like that more! It's one of the things I look for in people: those who take their ideas and followthrough. If it fails or somebody changes their mind about an idea, it's no problem! I'd much rather hear it from them rather than hearing the tumble weed of silence once a plan is proposed and work for a project is requested.
I have learnt this year to keep future plans as quiet as possible. Sometimes it's just too much! I'm one of those people who loves to say "hey guess what we're doing, planning, making!". But I will keep things hidden until they are good and ready. Not only so I don't dissapoint anybody when things don't work out, but timings are tricky. There's such a thing as a day job, and if your day job is your past time... well, I tip my hat to you.
I used to be a show-off as a child, and you know, and I think others will back me up on this: continuing creative pursuits have a lot to do with how others enjoy them, so finally on this note, I want to Thank those who supported my ongoing efforts. It really means a lot!
Anyways. For now, I can safely say we are working on a few things to entertain.
